 El partido
conservador del Reino Unido está realizando una nueva
campaña si más no, bastante ingeniosa. La campaña
"London’s
top job, your chance to become the mayor" está basada
en la elección del futuro candidato conservador a alcalde de
la ciudad de Londres, alguien que saque del poder al laborista Ken
"el Rojo" Livingstone.
Las elecciones tendrán lugar en
2008 y se van a efectuar elecciones primarias para elegir al
candidato. Es la primera vez que se realizará así la
elección en el partido conservador, pero no es ninguna novedad
en muchos otros países y partidos.
La novedad de su
campaña estriba en que no solo quieren que los militantes
voten al candidato, sinó que permiten, mediante un formulario,
que los militantes se presenten ellos mismos a alcalde.
Tal como dice su web: "Every Londoner who supports our Party
will have a chance to become the Conservative candidate. Headhunters
will be used to encourage potential candidates to apply. And, later
in the year, we will be holding a series of public meetings across
the capital so that Londoners can quiz potential candidates face to
face. Then every Londoner will be able to vote by text or phone on
who should be the Conservative candidate for the capital’s top
job.Too many people are fed up and disillusioned with politics. We
hope that doing things differently will fire the public’s
imagination, and get them talking and thinking about politics again.
Somewhere in London, there’s a Mayor in the making. If it’s you,
please consider applying today".
Una vez recibido el
formulario, éste se estudiará y si pasa a la siguiente
fase se informará al candidato, el cual será
entrevistado. Finalmente, si se sigue pasando a la siguiente fase, el
candidato llegará a la gran final, donde deberá
presentarse a mítings por todo Londres en el mes de octubre. A
partir de aquí, comienza la campaña.
